What Really Works/What Doesn’t

If I could ever discuss one ‘secret’ or one advantage the people who make money vs. the ones that don’t is this one simple concept in this video:

 

Everything you do needs to have Personalization to it.  It took me a long time to learn this but when I finally ‘put myself out there’ I started seeing big results.  Company replicated sites, landing pages, capture pages, etc. are good for list building and generating leads, but rarely will these people (if they are actual people to begin with) will buy your product or join your business if they do not see a real person on the other side of the computer screen.  When I started implementing this my business skyrocketed, you just can’t be afraid to put yourself out there.

Remember this one simple rule in any business:

People do business with people they identify with!

Whether your 18 or 80, whatever race, whatever profession you are in or have been involved with.  Create a Story and people will respond.

Most people think they can just make a website and money just magically appears.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  If people cannot identify with the product or the opportunity they will not take action.  Walk into an big retailer like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, etc. and you will see just about every product with an advertisement portraying a person using the product or benefiting from the product.  This is done for a reason.

Following these simple rules of personalization allow me to wake up to money each day and bring in tons of emails and phone calls, and it doesn’t really matter what product or opportunity I’m promoting, because people buy from people.  

Something I learned from studying Darren Hardy (Author of SUCCESS magazine) is that people buy YOU as much as they are buying the product or the opportunity, when you capture how to relate to people and show yourself as a leader and have much to offer, you will have massive success. 

The funny truth about it all is just to be yourself 😉

Another very important aspect of being successful online is being ACCESSIBLE, even now that I have more signups than I could ever count, I ALWAYS return emails and phone calls as soon as I can.  If you want to make a full-time living online you have to treat your business like a business, not a hobby. 

As strange as it sounds, simply returning phone calls and emails is another big part of my success, just taking the time to answer questions.  I am simply dumbfounded why most sponsors in networking don’t do this, and magically think that people are going to sign up into their business.  This is another big reason for the failure rate in online marketing, most people find out that this is work like anything else and find out they actually have to provide value and answers to real people.

 “Becoming A Leader”

There are a few very important ways you need to portray yourself in everything you do, and that is being a leader.

Before I say anything, it is absolutely necessary for you to have your OWN personal website such as this:

I can’t stress enough what having your own website and having FULL control over your own content will do for your business.  You can argue all day long and get a blog on a free platform like blogger.com or wordpress.com, even empower network, but it’s absolutely necessary for you to be seen as a ‘leader’ by having your very own personal branded site.   This is GOLD.

How Do We Do This?  This is some psychological gold I’m giving you right here 😉

  1. Know as much as possible about the product or the opportunity
  2. Educate others on the product or the opportunity in a relatable (finding a common ground) way
  3. Willing to Help (always allow yourself to your prospects and share your knowledge)

If the term ‘Becoming A Leader’ makes you uncomfortable, just remember that the best leaders are also the best servants.  People are going to join the people in any opportunity that are:

  • The most visible (have as much content out there as possible)
  • The most relatable (normal but successful)
  • Have the most to offer (set yourself apart from others by offering unique bonuses or training)
  • Become the authority for your product or the opportunity you are involved with

So how exactly do we look like a leader?

Several characteristics are important:

  1. Speak confidently and in an upbeat manner (being lukewarm in any business is a business killer)
  2. Look professional on your website
  3. Have a great positive attitude; this attracts others to your business in a big way

I firmly believe that anyone can make an extra $100-200 dollars a month in this opportunity, but if you really want to make a full-time income you have to learn to establish yourself as a leader; the person that everybody thinks about when they think about the opportunity you are involved with.

It’s simply a matter of dominating your niche or market with as much content as possible using the methods above this page.  If this sounds like work that’s because it is.  If anybody could sign up into an opportunity and make $2000 monthly just by doing nothing in a matter of days, then we would have no teachers, doctors, lawyers, etc. and everybody would be working from home online.  I hope that makes sense to you.  I’m one of the few people online that’s going to be completely honest with you.  

Building a big successful business, whether offline or online is alot of hard work, and while it gets easier as you learn how to leverage your time, it’s still work.  If you get this concept down in the beginning you’ll be starting on a solid foundation for many years to come.

WHAT DOESN’T WORK

Now that we’ve discussed what works, it’s equally important to discuss ‘what doesn’t work’.  Here are a list of things that got me absolutely nowhere in my journey of online marketing and offline marketing.

1.  Company sites and company tools such as company made capture pages – Here is what you have to understand about company sites within an opportunity……EVERYBODY IS USING THEM.   You have to do something to seperate yourself from the competition, and having your very own blog or website converts 100x better than anything the company has for you, because very rarely does a company give you a site that offers any type of ‘personalization’ that allows a prospect to get to know you.

2. Lack of planning & direction – developing an online business is just like developing an offline business, you have to have a plan and put that plan in place.  You CANNOT just hope and wish for things to happen.  You have to make a plan and execute that plan to be successful.  Have a great idea for a video about your opportunity?  Write that down immediately and make it happen, upload and get it out there for the world to see.  Most people who get online do no planning and expect big things to happen.  It never does.  Develop a schedule and create habits to plan and develop your business from the very beginning.

3. Lack of Patience – while alot of online strategies you can see alot of quick response from, believing that you are going to make a full-time income in 2 weeks from the start is stretching it for the complete beginner.  Most of what it takes to be successful online is failing as often as possible to learn what really works.  Fail hard and as often as possible and learn what gets a response and what works.  This takes time and every big marketer will tell you the same thing.

4.  Blaming & Making Excuses – this is YOUR business.  No one can do it for you, you have be accountable and make it happen for yourself.  This is very thrilling for some and very scary for some depending upon your belief of yourself.  Once you realize that you are exactly where you are in life because of yourself, you become dangerous because you then realize it’s just a matter of working to get what you want.

5.  Relying on Friends and Family for Support – Your friends and family are never going to understand or really care about what you do.  You are different and want to be better and create a better life for yourselves.  Sadly some people in our circles do not want to see you become successful out of envy or jealousy, and will attack you emotionally or verbally because it’s all they can do.  You have to push forward, even alone at times and rely on yourself.  Internet Marketing at its foundation is one of the most solitary and lonely industries due to the fact that your spouse or family will never really understand what you are doing each day in front of the computer.  Don’t expect much support.  Rely on people that are like you and develop relationships with your business partners to encourage each other.
